Indications have emerged that theNigeria Labour Congress, NLC, is planning a massive assault on Diamond Bank Plc, over alleged disengagement of workers including officials of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, NUBIFIE, inappropriately without paying their entitlements.
The management of the said bank and leaders of NUBIFIE have been at logger heads over the sack of about 100 workers including all the union officers in the bank since June.
Earlier in July, NUBIFIE, Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions, ASSBIFI, NLC and civil society allies mobilized against the banks for about two days before Chief Emeka Wogu, Labour Minister, intervened and invited both parties including ASSBIFI to a meeting.
It was gathered that the court had earlier advised the bank against the termination of the appointments of the workers without due process. It was gathered that the court at its recent sitting adjourned the case till September, but this deveolpment seems not have gone down well with labour leaders. The union is aggrieved that the disengaged workers have been on the streets for two months without anything.
