“Nigeria Requires N1.9trillion For Adequate Health Coverage” – NHIS Reveals

The Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Femi Thomas, has stated that Nigeria needs N1.92 trillion to achieve universal health coverage.

He however, noted that this fund should not be difficult to raise as the nation currently spends about N2.4 trillion, which he described as an unplanned spending.

Thomas  made this known in Abuja during a meeting with commissioners of health and permanent secretaries of the state ministries of health.

The NHIS Boss expressed concerns that the inclusion of health in the concurrent list has triggered conflicts between the states and the federation government. He however vowed that the agency will turn the crisis into an opportunity to provide affordable health services to citizens
