The Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto, witnessed slight drama when supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had stormed the airport, prevented the chartered flight conveying the state Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, from landing at the airport. The plane was also carrying all the representatives of the state in the Senate and House of Representatives.
The supporters had stormed the tarmac of the airport in order to catch a glimpse of the governor, who was suspended by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP for alleged insubordination.
The pilot of the chartered aircraft, after attempting to land at about 4:p.m and failing due to the large crowd at the tarmac, had to fly back to Kaduna.
However, NAMA on Wednesday explained that it diverted the plane, a Donnier 328 aircraft conveying the Wamakko, which was supposed to land at the Sokoto airport to Kaduna airport, due to safety and security precautionary measures.
