Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arch. Musa Muhammad Sada, has said there is need for surveillance equipment to be provided for effective monitoring of mining activities in Nigeria.
The minister said at the ministerial platform that one of the major challenges the sector is facing is “lack of adequate mines’ special purpose surveillance equipment for field work and revenue collection/monitoring.
Sada who said the sector also contributes to the federation account, stressed that it is hampered by the problem of “inadequate funding, inadequate mining site infrastructure, and inadequate skilled manpower.”
“Insecurity in the mines field and infiltration by illegal aliens” is another major problem the sector is battling with, the minister said.
