Malaria Deaths Drop By 33.4% in Africa – WHO

Last Saturday, the Executive Director of the Roll Back Malaria Program of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Fatoumata Nafo-Traore, said that deaths as a result of malaria have gone down by one-third in Africa in the last 13 years.
According to her, since the year 2000, when African leaders held a meeting in Abuja to discuss ways to slash malaria deaths and cases in the continent, there have been improved results.
The executive Director announced this at the Special African Union (AU) Summit on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Abuja recently.
Dr. Nafo-Traore said that 44 African nations had recorded over 50 percent reduction in malaria cases over the past decade.
