Lagos Tops The List Of Owing States With N230bn Debt

The Debt Management Office (DMO), total domestic debt of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, stood at N1.5 trillion, as at December 31, 2012.

Of this amount, Lagos State topped the list with N230 billion or 14.85 per cent, followed by Bayelsa with N222 billion or 14.33 per cent, while the FCT was next with N123.9 billion or 7.99 per cent.

Other top debtor states are, Akwa Ibom, N108.8 billion or 7.02 per cent;  Cross River, N90.8 billion or 5.86 per cent; Delta,  N83.7 billion or 5.9 per cent and Rivers, N81.5 billion or 5.25 per cent.
