Imo Rated Best State On Road Construction

A global performance group, South East Democracy watch (SEDW) has Imo State as the Best State in road construction in the South East, with its Joint Monitoring Committee recommended as a model in the attainment of quality roads through prudent management

In its mid-term assessment report released in Enugu, the group described the processes of award of contracts, monitoring and execution of roads in Imo State as the best not only in the South East but the entire federation.

National Coordinator of SEDW, Emeka Nnamani, who read the report, disclosed that the 300 kilometres of asphalted roads in Imo were of the best quality, yet with “competitive cost”.

“We were amazed that while other governments were using between N40 million and N60 million to construct a kilometre of asphalted road, Imo used only N21 million and yet the quality is fantastic,” he stated.

He said that their investigation, also showed that the monitoring committee headed by Hon Stan Dara of Imo State House of Assembly was able to save the people of the state a whopping N12 billion from the exercise.
