Flying Eagles To Rely On Home-based Players For AYF 2015

In the absence of some of its international players, the Flying Eagles will turn to home-based players for the Africa Youth Championship.

Following the news that some foreign-based players of the Flying Eagles will not be released for the Africa Youth Championship, coaches of the team are inching towards using more home-based players.

The assistant team coach, Fancy Ewulu, who spoke from Kaduna after the team’s 3-1 victory over Spotlite football club, said in part: “Naturally we are disappointed that Iheanacho and Nwakali were not released by their club, but we have ready- made alternative to fall back on as we have not built the team round any individual.”

“You will remember that even when the foreign based came the other time, they had to come in from the bench. We have many good players in the team who are ready to prove themselves.”

However, in recent development, one of the invited foreign based players, Umar Yahaya, arrived the team’s camp on Wednesday, January 14, with others expected to arrive imminently.
