Flooding: Emergency Agencies Appraise Preparation for Rainy Season

In its effort to prevent loss of lives and properties, which marked last year’s raining season, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has called for vigilance on the part of the citizens during this year’s rainfall, which has been predicted to be very heavy. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted that the heavy rainfall that caused severe devastation and claimed many lives in various parts of the country in 2012 would most likely repeat itself this year. According to the prediction, the 2013 rainy season will be between 110 days in the extreme North and 300 days in the South with thunderstorm. The amount of rainfall is expected to range from 400mm to 100mm in the extreme North and 1,500mm to 3,000mm and southern part of the country, respectively.
