The new Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State has taken off.
The university, which occupies a landmass of 600 hectares and was donated by the host community, was established to create a centre of excellence and a specialised centre in the field of medical sciences
Speaking to newsmen at Otukpo on Tuesday,June 16, the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the institution, Ferdinand Agu, explained that because of the importance attached to the university by the federal government, the governing council would work assiduously to establish a university that will be a centre for research.
“I think it is important for us to understand that the primary purpose, the primary function of the university is to create knowledge and to cultivate the world of knowledge,”he said.
Agu said the varsity would take a peculiar look at the relationship between the institution and the host community, which he said has given incredible and warm reception to the board and hoped that the varsity will impact positively on the lives of the people.
He expressed gratitude over the humongous land donated by the community and thanked the people of the area, particularly, the immediate senate president, David Mark for showing leadership and direction.
