Fashion Trends Inspired By Mai Atafo

With a sharp transition from the corporate world into the fashion terrain, Mai Atafo has become one of the most sought after couturiers in the Nigerian fashion industry. Today, Mai Atafo, is one brand that speaks for itself, with carefully cut and perfectly seamed pieces. With the launch of the Mai Atafo Inspired (MIA) line in 2007, this fashion architect has built a reputation in tailoring sleek men suits and elegant red carpet dresses for the women folk.

His debut as a full time stylist came in 2005, when he styled the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Omowunmi Akinnifesi (MBGN 2005). He was also responsible for the wardrobe of Pasuma Wonder and Wale Rubber in the Debut Edition of the TV Dance Reality show “Celebrity Takes Two”. Mai Atafo has also styled celebrities and anchors of events like Hip Hop World Awards, Soundcity Music Video Award and a host of others.

Mai Atafo broke new grounds in the industry in July 2011 when he unveiled his bridal line “Weddings by MAI”, a nuptial wardrobe catering to the fashion need of the entire wedding party, from the bride, groom, bridesmaid and groomsmen.

The designer has certainly paid his dues with the few but very impactful years in the industry, which has seen his brand becoming a household name in the Nigerian fashion scenery. His success story has so far been embellished with series of awards and recognition for his statement pieces that leave fashionistas craving for a touch of the ‘Mai Atafo’ magic wand.

The power puff designer adds that extra elegance in every piece, regardless of the individual it is designed for. His pursuit for excellence and perfection in his delivery has so far reflected in his increasing clientele base.  In addition, his avant-garde style of tailoring has shot him out as one of the country’s most skillful and creative designers.
