On Saturday night, over 90 residents of Izge Community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State were shot dead by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in a fresh bomb and gun attack. The community, a Christian dominated one, is located about 60 kilometers away from Maiduguri.
Lawal Tanko, Police Commissioner in Borno State confirmed the attack but did not give details of the exact figure. “I don’t have the exact figures now, my men have gone to the scene of the incident, I will get back to you later,” he said on phone.
However, Ibrahim Musa, a survivor of the attack said that over 90 residents were shot dead during the invasion.
“Most of us were sleeping when all of a sudden we started hearing gunshot and chanting of “Allahu Akbar” from Boko Haram members numbering over 300. They started shooting sporadically, killing everyone on sight while many other residents were left critically injured. I and a very few others were able to escape through the bush only to return this morning and found over 90 dead bodies littered everywhere in our town,” Musa said.
