The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army yesterday said it averted what could have been coordinated attacks by outlawed islamist group, Boko Haram in Konduga and Bama Local Government Areas of Borno State.
It was gathered that the aversion of the attacks was made possible by based an intelligence report available to the troops that over 100 Boko Haram sect members had mobilized in a nearby bush close to Bama town with sophisticated weapons to launch attack the town and Konduga.
According to reports, before the terrorists could move, men of the 7 Division ambushed them with armored patrol tankers and rocket-propelled grenade, RPG, killing about 40 of the terrorists. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the operation.
A security source confirmed the incident in Maiduguri, saying, “We stopped what could have been deadly attacks by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Bama and Konduga Councils.
“Information available indicated that over 100 terrorists were ambushed by security operatives based on intelligence report near Bama town and that unspecified number of them were killed, using bombs and sophisticated weapons.”
