Bayelsa government has mobilized about 9,328 security personnel comprising 8,500 policemen and 828 men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to maintain law and order during the local government election in Bayelsa State, which is scheduled for March 23.

It was learnt that 5,000 policemen would be on patrol across the eight local government areas and 105 wards in the state while 3,500 policemen would secure the polling units.

“We are working to see that electoral materials and personnel are deployed early. Let us continue to enjoy the peace we are enjoying in Bayelsa. It is not a do-or-die affair. Youths should not allow themselves to be used as thugs,” Omire cautioned.

He also advised losers not to foment trouble after results had been announced, stressing that such contenders should approach the election petition tribunal to seek redress.

Meanwhile, the state Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) has disclosed that 10 political parties have fielded chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the election on Saturday.
