National Treasurer of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Ademola Aremu, has said that the five-month-old strike by the union could end within the next 24 hours if the Federal Government was serious about ending it.
The Union executive who stated this in an interview with newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday said, some of the resolutions reached with President Goodluck Jonathan during their last meeting with him were not included a the letter sent to the union by government.
“They are interested in wasting the time and life of Nigerians. What we observed do not require any additional kobo effect. The letter does not include non-victimisation clause,” he said.
Aremu added: “We are not making fresh demands, in fact the NEC of the union would have suspended the strike, but the concerns of our congresses were that many of the things agreed to with Mr President during the November 4th meeting with him were not included in the letter signed by a Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Mark John Nwobiala.”
