Dr Nasir Isa Fagge, the National President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has accused the Federal Government of being hypocritical to education in Nigeria and has vowed that the ongoing indefinite strike will not be shelved until the union’s demands are met.
Fagge also disclosed that ASUU had duly communicated with the Federal Government through the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed on the strike contrary to the position of the minister that government was not officially informed about the strike.
The Union national president on Thursday, said university lecturers have come to the realization that government was not serious about addressing the decay and rot in the university system in the country. He said the union was quite aggrieved that the report of the Needs Assessment Committee of Nigerian Universities has been discarded by the Federal Government.
He said: “We are not convinced that government is serious about addressing the rot in the nation’s university system.”
