In order to effectively manage funds , check fraud and financial leakages, the Akwa Ibom State Government will now begin to operate a single revenue account for all monies collected by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.
This was part of the decision taken at the weekly State Executive Council meeting of the held in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital where the state Governor, Udom Emmanuel, presided.
Briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah, said that the decision to operate a single revenue account was to ensure effective monitoring and efficient management of monies collected on behalf of the state government.
According to Umanah, the council also directed the Ministry of Rural Development to “immediately determine the number of villages yet to be connected to the national grid for urgent action,” following the achievement recorded in the 18-hour daily electricity supply in the state.
The commissioner indicated that the Ministry of Environment was directed by the council to formulate grading standards for billboard structures across the state to enhance aesthetics of the state.
