The 34 countries coming to Nigeria for the maiden African Youth Athletics Championships scheduled to hold between March 27 and 31st in Warri, Delta State, have been granted visa waivers.
Secretary General of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria who also doubles as the scribe of the Warri 2013 Local Organising Committee, Mrs Maria Wophill confirmed yesterday the waiver letters have been dispatched to all the African countries coming to Nigeria for the youth athletics fiesta.
“The letters conveying the visa waivers have been dispatched to the 34 participating countries. We have made it possible for them to collect their visas at point of entry into Nigeria without having to go through the process of apply for the travel documents in their respective countries,” said Wophill, who is an IAAF Women Committee member.
She said that the visa waiver was part of incentives to visiting countries in order to avoid any hitches as they plan to enter the country. Tuesday, host Delta State Government again reiterated its determination to stage a world-class championship that will be the benchmark for future editions. Top Delta State sports officials said Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has not only made adequate financial provision for the week-long meet, but has taken personal interest in seeing that everything needed to succeed are in place.
