2,255 Inmates In Nigerian Prisons Have Escaped In Five Years

Spokesperson for the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), Mr. Ope Fatinikun, has revealed that a total of 2,255 prison inmates have been freed unlawfully from various prisons across the country in 14 different attacks.

According to him, between July 27, 2009 Boko Haram insurgents allegedly attacked Maiduguri Prisons and freed 482 inmates. Also, onOctober 29, this year, another set of 366 inmates were also freed following the overrun of Mubi, the second largest town in Adamawa State,

However, Fatinikun stated that 194 of the escaped inmates have so far been rearrested.
