Customs Nets N13billion in 11 Months

The Nigeria Customs Service , NCS, Oyo/Osun command has declared N13billion revenue between January and November this year.

The acting Customs Area Controller, Abdulsalam Hassan, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on Wednesday, December 16 at the command’s headquarters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to him, the breakdown revealed that the command generated a total of N144, 285,138 from 2,156 metric tonnes (43,120 (50kg) bags of rice), between October and November 2015 when the restriction on duty collection from the borders was removed.

He described the feat as a great achievements under the new management of Controller General of Customs Col. Hammed Ali (rtd).

Aside the N13,201,987,322.77 generated, the controller added that, ”A total of 166 seizures with a duty paid value of N 395,197,572 were made.

Abdulsalam noted that though no arrest was made during the seizures as the culprits took to their heels, he was quick to add that efforts are on top gear to collaborate with members of the public through the Customs Community Consultative Forum (CCCF) to reduce smuggling to the barest minimum.
