Minister of State for Education Barrister Nyesom Wike said the usual practice is to review curriculum after five years but the basic education curriculum had to be reviewed after three years.
Wike said this in Abuja at a programme to launch the “Young Readers Club” at Peoples Comprehensive Academy, Mararaba, Nasarawa State. He said the measure became necessary owing to concerns raised by parents and other stakeholders in the education sector that students are unduly overstressed academically with the volume of subjects they take on daily basis in class.
Wike, who was represented at the occasion by his Special Assistant, Technical, Oluwafemi Ayewoh, also attributed the decline in reading among students to shoddy time management and crave to acquire paper qualification without necessarily grasping real knowledge.
