Plateau Commences Implementation Of Greater Jos Master Plan
To curb the prevailing decay in the city planning development and the seeming disorderly growth in Jos metropolis, the Plateau State Government has kick-started the implementation of the New Greater Jos Master Plan.
Plateau State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Solomon Maren, an engineer, revealed this recently, at the one day Mandatory Professional Development, put in place by the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, (NIESV), Plateau State Chapter, in collaboration with Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON).
Speaking, Maren said that the city of Jos’ earlier Master Plan, called the Dioxiades Master Plan of 1974-2000, was prepared by the administration of the late Military Governor of the Old Plateau State, Joseph Deshi Gomwalk, but only 30 per cent provision of the plan was achieved as the document had no legal backing.
He said that with the expiration of the Dioxades master Plan in 2000 and in the absence of any previous review of that Master Plan, the growth and development of Jos had been without any guiding document for a better period of 10 to 15 years.
