Jigawa LG Set To Immunise 79,000 Against Polio

The Kiyawa Local Government Council of Jigawa State is to immunise no fewer that 79,000 children against polio in the ongoing 2017 polio immunisation exercise.

The council’s Information Officer, Malam Balarabe Abdullahi, told our correspondent that the council targets total prevention of polio.

Abdullahi said that the council had received enough doses of Oral Polio Vaccines (OPVs) for the smooth conduct of the exercise.

He said that the children would be immunised against the virus and other child-killer diseases during the exercise.

He added that the council had provided cartons of sweets to woo children so that they would participate in the exercise.

He said that the council had also engaged community and religious leaders to mobilise people in their respective domains to participate.

Abdullahi, therefore, urged parents and guardians to cooperate with the health workers in order to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

The January round of immunisation commenced in all local government areas of the state on January 28.
