Female Suicide Bombers Storm Kano Market, Kill Six

Yesterday, two female suicide bombers detonated bombs at the very busy textile Kwari Market located in the Kano city centre, killing six and injuring seven others.

It was gathered that the suicide bombers, who disguised as customers while traders and shoppers were going about their businesses, aroused suspicion when they asked for water to ease themselves.

The traders were said to have denied them access to toilets, which caused a shouting match between them and the two female bombers. It was during the commotion that one of the female suicide bombers detonated her bomb to avoid arrest.

Confirming the explosions, the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba, said the explosions killed six persons including the suicide bombers. He added that seven others sustained varied degrees of injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

“We have taken the dead victims including the two suicide bombers to the morgue and the area has been cordoned off in order to prevent hoodlums from using the opportunity to loot property at the market,” he said.

Shinaba said the security agencies were working in conjunction with the officials of the market so that nobody will come under the pretext of sympathysing with people to loot the market.
